Is there any difference between non-animal testing and cruelty-free?

Is non-animal testing and cruelty-free the same? To figure out the question, we need to know their definitions first.
Non-animal testing
"animal testing" simply means the procedure performed on living animals. The purpose is to assess the effectiveness of new medical products or to ensure the safety and health of human beings using certain products, such as cosmetics, household cleaners, etc.

Non-animal testing is just contrary to animal testing. No matter because of the moral issue or economic concern, non-animal testing won't hurt any animal in any way during the procedure of product safety testing.

What does cruelty-free mean?

Cruelty-free is a label for products to prove the non-animal testing action. There are two types of cruelty-free logos which belong to two different companies. And only the logos issued by these two companies are official.
PETA
To get the right of using PETA's bunny logo, brands need to hand in an official agreement under the name of the brands' CEO for claiming and assuring for both ingredients and final products have never been through animal testing.
Leaping bunny program
For participating in the leaping bunny program, brands need to show and submit proof of documents from each of their suppliers, from ingredients to the manufacturer, that all which composed the products are not tested on animals.

Cruelty-free equals non-animal testing?

Since animal testing often occurs at the ingredient level, while the brand claim that their products are non-animal testing, it is possible that during the process of the final product, brands don't do animal testing, but the other ingredient suppliers do that.

In this case, customers need an official cruelty-free logo to identify if the products are REAL cruelty-free products or claim-to-be cruelty-free products. If the products are logoed with PETA's or leaping bunny's rabbit logo, it means this cruelty-free product is 100% non-animal testing. Contact us!
