What is a silk-screen print?

Silk-screen print is one of the often-seen and most-used printing technics. It is used for printing images, designs, logos on T-shirts, tot bags, wood, plastic, glass, etc.
The silk-screen print has become the most popular printing technics because of its economic advantages in consideration of price, simple operation, production speed, and possibilities in colors and texture, such as shimmer and fake leather.

The process of Silk-screen print

To have your silk-screen print for your products, the first step is to prepare the design. After receiving the design, the operator would disassemble the design by colors, which means the more colors for the design, the more complicated the process will be. After these steps, we will start the silk-screen printing process.
#1 Transfer the design
The disassembled designs will be transferred onto the transparent acetate films , which is then used to create the stencil. The more colors the design has, the more films are needed.
#2 Prepare the screen for printing
There are several screen texture options: nylon, polyester, and stainless steel wires. The printer will choose the suitable type of mesh screen depending on the stylistics of the design and the texture of the printing fabrics.

Several preparation steps:
1. Coat the screen with emulsion.
2. Explore the screen beneath the bright light.
3. Rinse off the emulsion, then wait for the screen to dry.
When all the steps above are done, the stencil will be imprinted clearly on the screen.
#3 Start printing
It's good to print the logo or image on the products by the prepared screen. The printer will choose suitable ink for different packaging materials.
#4 Dry, Check, and Finish
The final stage is to let products pass through a dryer. When the paint is dried, all is done.

When touching the logo and image with silk-screen print, you'll feel the convex of the design.

Final products' quality check

There are several ways to check the final product's quality whether the design is well printed on the products or not.
Tape testing
Stick on and tear off the tape (3M tape: 610, 616, 810) to the printed design area and see if the print stays well on the surface of the product.
Cross cut adhesion testing
Using a special tool to cut a right angle lattice pattern into the coating to determine paints and coatings' resistance.
Eraser testing
Take an eraser or pencil and rub against the paints to check the printing resistance.
Alcohol resistance testing
Spray the alcohol on the painting area and see if it stays on well.
Low-temperature exposure testing
Low temperature might have a negative impact on the printing and make it peel off.
Chemistry resistance testing
Chemical liquor may erode the printing.

If the paint on your products could beat all these tests, congratulations, you got a good quality silk-screen print! Contact us!
